New Finding!  Excess Body Fat Increases Risk of Six Cancers

The American Institute for Cancer and the World Cancer Research Fund have announced their findings that excess body fat increases the risk of esophagus, pancreas, colon, kidney, endometrium, and post-menopausal breast cancer.  This is the first large-scale international comprehensive study to reveal that even small amounts of extra body fat, especially around the waist area, increases the risk of cancer.  Additionally, the researchers found that diet and activity levels contributed to cancer risk as well.

The researchers recommend that people stay as lean as possible within their range on the Body Mass Index (BMI).  For adults, that means maintaining 18.5% to 24.9% body fat throughout life.  Other top recommendations include exercising at least 30 minutes per day and limiting high-sugar, high-fat, and low-fiber foods. In other words, burgers, fries, and soda pop are out and poultry, fish, and non-starchy fruits and vegetables are in!  In fact, they recommend five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.  Not only will a healthy diet and regular exercise help reduce your risk of cancer, but it will help you keep fit and trim.
