John J. Costanzi, MD
Board-Certified Cancer Specialist
“I chose to become a physician because I wanted to help people. And in many ways, people with cancer are those who need help the most. That’s because cancer ‘owns’ a person completely. It’s not just a disease. It consumes the patient’s health, spirit, finances and emotional well-being. And it does the same for the patient’s family members. In the decades since I first began practicing cancer medicine, I’ve learned time and time again that the individual’s personal and spiritual commitment to his or her fight against cancer is as important as the treatment itself. For this reason, I perceive my duties as a cancer physician to include not just leading-edge care but also whole-hearted dedication to supporting, guiding, encouraging and — most of all — understanding you.
“Expertise is critically important in the treatment of cancer, which is why I stay abreast of new developments and always strive to remain on the leading edge of cancer care. But at the same time, I know that I’m treating a person, not just a disease. This requires compassion, a sympathetic ear, sensitivity to and concern for your individual needs and a personal commitment to winning the fight.”
